Which items I can upgrade to V.90?
The items are HM18020-1, HM18020-2 & HM18020-3 only.
Should I upgrade to V.90 now?
The answer is NO. You don't have to upgrade your 56K Flies modem now until your ISP offers V.90. If you are currently getting connections slowly than 33,600bps, I would suggest you to upgrade the frimware to V1.120 or V2.012 K56Flex. If you are currently getting connections faster than 33,600bps, please stay until your ISP offers V.90.
How to Upgrade my K56 Flies modem to V.90?
Download this file. It is a self-extract file, you can save it in a disk or in the tempory directory.
After you extract the upgrade file and click on V90wiz.exe, you will see the figures as below, follow all the steps it provid. The program will auto backup your current firmware as OrigBkup.S37, please DO NOT delete that file.
The file contains two different version of firmwares: V2.012(K56Flex) and V2.065(V.90).
Will I still able to connect to K56Flex modems at 56k if I upgrade my K56Flex to V.90?
The answer is NO. You will be limmited to a maximum 33.6k, average 28.8k connect. You need to restore your old firmware by running the V.90 upgrade program. The old firmware is stored as OrigBkup.S37, or you can upgrade your modem to K56Flex (V2.012).
The reason you can only use one or the other (K56Flex or V.90) is the orginal design for Rockwell K56Flex (single chip) only carried 1 Meg flash EPROM. K56Flex takes almost all the 1 Meg EPROM, therefore no more room for V.90 code.
How to enable and disable V.90 connections?
Add these command to the end of the initial string:
Force V.90 Connection +MS=12,1,24667,56000 Disable V.90 & Force K56Flex +MS=56,1,34000,56000 V.90 preferred (K56flex will still work) +MS=12,1 K56Flex preferred (V.90 will still work) +MS=56,1 Disable V.90 and K56flex, use V.34 +MS=11,1
